Union Agriculture Minister Orders States to Stop Forced Sale of Nano-Fertilisers to Farmers

Shivraj Singh Chouhan warns against illegal bundling and stresses fair access to genuine fertilisers for farmers

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has asked all state governments to stop the forced sale of nano-fertilisers and biostimulants to farmers. Retailers have been telling farmers to buy these products along with subsidised fertilisers like urea and DAP, which is not allowed. According to Indian Express, Chouhan made it clear in his letter that this practice is illegal and must end immediately. He has told chief ministers that those who break the rules should face legal action, license cancellation, and even FIRs.

Chouhan stressed the importance of giving farmers genuine and good quality fertilisers at fair prices, and at the right time. He said fake or bad fertilisers are banned under the Fertiliser (Control) Order, 1985, which comes under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955. Regular checks and strict testing must be done to stop black marketing, overpricing, and diversion of subsidised fertilisers.

As stated by Indian Express, the minister also raised doubts about the benefits of nano urea and biostimulants at the recent Kharif 2025 conference. He urged all states to start strong campaigns against fake and low-quality agricultural inputs and protect farmers.

He wants close monitoring and fast action so farmers are not forced to buy unwanted products and can farm without worry, ensuring a better future for agriculture.
