🤝 High-Level Talks Between India and China

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi visited India recently. He met with Indian officials, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, during the 24th round of border talks. The environment between the two nations has grown more peaceful—with quieter borders and more open conversations.

📌 India’s Concerns Raised

During these talks, India raised concerns about shortages in critical areas. Specifically, India needs better access to fertilizers, rare earth minerals, and tunnel-boring machines for agricultural growth, manufacturing, infrastructure, and energy sectors.

✅ China’s Assurances

In response, China made a clear promise: it will address India’s demands in these three vital categories. China has lifted export restrictions on fertilizers, rare earth magnets/minerals, and tunnel-boring machines. Reports indicate that these shipments may have already started moving toward India.

📊 Current Export Status

That said, rare earth exports to India are still 58% lower compared to January levels, even though China’s overall exports of rare earth materials have begun to recover. It remains unclear whether China will offer faster export approvals or blanket exemptions specifically for India.

🌍 India’s Dependence on Imports

India, despite having the fifth-largest reserves of rare earths in the world (about 6.9 million metric tons), lacks the capability to produce rare-earth magnets domestically and depends heavily on imports.

🔑 A Step Toward Stronger Relations

In short, this move could ease critical supply shortages for India and may mark a meaningful step toward improving economic and diplomatic ties between the two nations.
